Welcome to Green Futures
“Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’” MLK, Jr.
What am I doing for others? A few years ago this question became imbedded in my daily work habits when I jotted “Who needs your help today?” on a sticky note and stuck it to the bottom edge of my computer screen. But it never seemed like I was doing enough. I have tried to remember to be helpful to everyone I interact with, and I think I’ve gotten better at that. But recently a big part of my job was to find and implement ways for a big corporation to “do for others” beyond just the people we encounter every day. You see, to make a business more sustainable, specifically more environmentally sustainable, you have to embrace a philosophy of making things better for people today, for people in the future, and for the plant and animal life that sustains us all. It’s a pretty big order.
Along the way I’ve read about, met, and worked with thousands of people who are living this philosophy by doing things every day for people they know, people they don’t know, people they will never meet, and for the diverse other inhabitants of the planet. It’s a wonderful way to live a life.
My goal with Green Futures is to encourage and support others who want to embrace this philosophy in any aspect of their lives, large or small. In addition to the services offered on the website, I will be regularly adding blog posts diving into the many aspects of environmental sustainability, like:
waste reduction and wise material choices
waste management and recycling
water pollution prevention and wise water use
air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions reduction
energy use and new developments
biodiversity support and habitat protection
community engagement
individuals and groups that are making a difference
I hope you will follow along. If you want to get more involved, please contact me!
